In case of severe swelling, shortness of breath or difficulty swallowing
Call the emergency number 112 immediately or go to the nearest emergency department. This also applies after an accident with facial injuries.
What the emergency service does
The emergency dental service provides initial care. The practice on duty relieves pain, treats inflammation provisionally, takes care of an injury or temporarily covers an open tooth. Complete treatment is usually not intended in the emergency service and often not possible: there is not enough time, there are no previous X-rays and there is no treatment plan.
Which practice is currently on duty is shown on the emergency service websites notdienst-weissenfels.de and notdienst-burgenlandkreis.de.
Why follow-up treatment matters
After the emergency service, the cause of the complaints is often still there. A temporary filling only lasts for a limited time, inflammation can flare up again, and a broken tooth needs a permanent restoration. Please have it checked at a dental practice soon, even if the pain has eased. If the emergency service advised you to do something specific, such as a check-up after a few days, please follow that advice.
What to bring to your appointment
- Your health insurance card (with private insurance, your insurance details)
- Any documents from the emergency service, for example a treatment report or X-rays
- The medication or prescriptions from the emergency service, or a list of what you have taken since
- A list of your other medication and pre-existing conditions
