What happens in the 60 minutes
- Findings. We look at the gums, tooth necks and the transitions to fillings and crowns, measure the gum pockets where needed and stain the plaque so that you can see where it sits.
- Cleaning. We remove hard and soft deposits with ultrasound, hand instruments and air polishing, including in the interdental spaces and below the gum line, where brush and floss cannot reach.
- Polishing and fluoride. Smooth surfaces attract less plaque; a fluoride varnish strengthens the enamel.
- Instruction. Which brush, which interdental brushes, which technique: we show you on your own teeth, without lecturing.
What it does for you
- The risk of decay and periodontitis can fall because bacterial plaque is removed regularly.
- Discolouration from coffee, tea or tobacco often disappears; the teeth look lighter.
- Implants and restorations tend to last longer because the transitions are kept clean.
- After periodontitis treatment, regular cleaning is part of the aftercare (supportive periodontal therapy), usually at shorter intervals.
How often?
For most adults, every six months. For implants, after periodontitis, for smokers or with an increased risk of decay, we set the interval individually, usually every three to four months. You can save the reminder for your next appointment directly to your phone at the bottom of this page.
