CEREC® is a computer-assisted technique for producing aesthetic, metal-free, all-ceramic dental restorations without a conventional impression and "quickly". Patients sometimes go home the very same day with their "new tooth"! With CEREC®, we can produce, for example, inlays, crowns and veneers.
The advantages of CEREC®:
- Highly aesthetic, natural appearance: With its slight translucency and vivid colour rendering, the all-ceramic material used makes the new dental prosthesis look almost like a real tooth. It also means no dark crown margins can develop, which otherwise usually appear over time.
- No impression needed: There's no need for the conventional impression (using a tray and impression material) that many patients find unpleasant. This also avoids any risk of triggering a gag reflex. Instead, the impression with CEREC® is taken digitally and without contact, using an intraoral scanner or camera!
- Shorter treatment time: Sometimes it's possible to carry out the entire treatment (including fitting the dental prosthesis) in just one appointment. In this case, only a local anaesthetic is needed.
- Biological tolerability: All-ceramic restorations are metal-free, and therefore well tolerated and highly suitable for people with allergies.
- No temporary restoration: A temporary tooth restoration, which is needed for days or weeks with conventional fabrication, is not required here, or only for a very short time. You may leave the practice with your new dental restoration on the same day or the next day. This also means there is no “open tooth” exposed to food, drink and germs.
- Quality and long-term stability: Ceramic is a high-quality, abrasion-resistant and durable material. It also allows for a high degree of precision fit and an accurate “margin seal” for the dental prosthesis. This also reduces the risk of further decay and gum inflammation.
How CEREC® works:
1. Digital Impression
The prepared tooth is captured using a 3D camera. This records the starting situation digitally, within moments, and completely without any physical impression.
2. Digital Planning
The three-dimensional image of the tooth and the neighbouring teeth is shown on the monitor. Your crown, veneer or inlay is then digitally designed – to fit precisely, taking the neighbouring teeth into account and, importantly for a harmonious bite, the corresponding tooth in the opposing jaw.
3. Computer-Controlled Manufacturing
The digital planning data is sent to a high-tech milling unit, which automatically mills the designed restoration from a small block of high-quality ceramic.
4. Fitting the Dental Restoration
The dental prosthesis can generally be fitted immediately after it has been made. The result of the CEREC® process is a restoration that meets the highest aesthetic and functional standards.
Let yourself be won over by the quality and natural beauty of these all-ceramic restorations. We're happy to show you examples.
