With the machine-assisted approach, the canals are shaped (prepared) so that they taper conically towards the tip. This means that even more complicated root canal shapes can be cleaned and filled. At the same time, the rotating motion of the files removes particles from the canals.
The advantages of machine-assisted treatment:
- Thanks to the greater precision and flexibility of the files, it allows more thorough cleaning and shaping of the infected root canals than other methods. Machine-driven files move safely through the hair-thin, curved and branching canals. This helps contribute to a higher success rate for root canal treatment.
- Mechanical preparation is also faster, and is usually more comfortable for patients than the technique using hand instruments.
