Alongside X-ray technology, we therefore also use an electronic apex locator. This determines the exact length of the root canal through a highly precise measurement of electrical resistance.
A regular X-ray only provides a two-dimensional image, in which the end of the canal is not always clearly visible.
Knowing the exact root canal length, however, is a prerequisite for all subsequent steps (cleaning and filling). The canal must be treated fully, right up to the root tip.
The advantages of electronic length measurement:
- The electronic measurement is more precise than X-ray diagnostics alone, because it determines the actual end of the inflamed root canal area.
- We can also avoid some of the X-rays that would otherwise be needed.
