General Anaesthesia and Sedation: Dental Treatment Without Anxiety

General Anaesthesia and Sedation: Dental Treatment Without Anxiety

You don't have to grit your teeth and bear anything. Whether it's mild tension or pronounced dental anxiety – we adapt the treatment to you, not the other way round. Three levels are available for this, which we select together with you.

Three Stages – You Help Decide

  1. Treatment while awake, with plenty of time. Local anaesthetic, breaks on request, a stop signal, an explanation of every step. For many patients, this is already enough, as long as the trust is there.
  2. Sedation (twilight sleep). A sedative given intravenously ensures that you remain relaxed and largely unaffected by the treatment; you breathe on your own and remain responsive. Sedation and general anaesthesia are carried out in our practice by a cooperating anaesthesia team (a specialist in anaesthesia), who monitor you throughout.
  3. General anaesthesia with intubation. For extensive procedures – several implants, full-mouth restorations, the removal of several teeth in one session – or in cases of pronounced dental phobia. The anaesthesia is administered by our cooperating anaesthesia team on our premises; you are completely unaware of the treatment.

We deliberately don't offer nitrous oxide: we rely on the three methods mentioned above, which are easy to control, and choose the right one together with you.

The first appointment is a chance to get to know each other – not a treatment

At the first visit, we simply look, talk and plan. You get to know the practice, your practitioner and the rooms; we discuss your history and your wishes. An examination only takes place if you want it to. Only after that do we decide together which stage is right for you.

Safety, Preparation, Support

What does this cost?

Treatment while conscious, under local anaesthetic, is covered by statutory health insurance. Statutory health insurers only cover sedation and general anaesthesia in certain cases (for example, for children, certain medical conditions, or medically necessary procedures); as a rule, this is a private service, which the anaesthesia team bills separately according to the length of the procedure under the GOÄ (Schedule of Fees for Doctors). You will receive the dental treatment plan in advance as a written treatment and cost plan, and the anaesthesia costs as a separate cost summary. Instalment payment is available through our partner BFS health finance.

Partner Programme – Straumann Group

Immediacy Center of Excellence

The “Immediacy Center of Excellence” is a programme run by the Straumann Group, a global manufacturer of dental implant systems. Practices can take part if they can demonstrate documented case numbers in immediate implant placement (“Immediacy”), regular further training, and a digital planning and manufacturing workflow using the manufacturer's products. Our practice has been a partner practice in this programme since January 2025. Participation is a manufacturer partnership and not an independent certification.

Saturday

What “by arrangement” means

On Saturdays we treat by prior arrangement — specifically for matters that need a long, uninterrupted block of time: implant placements, larger surgical procedures, extensive dental prosthetics, treatment under sedation or general anaesthesia, and appointments for patients who travel a longer distance and would like to have everything done in one day.

For short matters — a polish, a check-up, having a filling looked at — we will find an appointment together during the week. That is usually quicker for you as well.

Whether your case fits, we can clarify on the phone in two minutes.
