What a dental laser does
A dental laser focuses light of a specific wavelength. This allows soft tissue to be separated or removed very precisely, small blood vessels usually seal immediately, and bacteria are reduced in the treated area. For you, this generally means less bleeding and a clearer treatment field. Whether the laser is the right choice in an individual case depends on the findings.
Surgery
- Soft-tissue procedures: Lip and tongue ties, uncovering implants, removing overgrowths or shaping the gums before dental prosthetics.
- Implantology: Uncovering implants and managing the soft tissue around them; where the tissue around an implant is inflamed (peri-implantitis), we clean the surface using the laser, among other methods.
- Wound healing: At low energy, the laser can be used to support tissue after a procedure.
Root Canal Treatment
After mechanical preparation, residual bacteria often remain in the fine branches of a root canal. There, we use the laser as an additional means of disinfection before the canal is filled. This is an extra step alongside our usual technique with electronic length measurement and thermoplastic filling, not a replacement for it.
Periodontitis treatment
In the treatment of periodontal pockets, the laser is used after mechanical cleaning to reduce the bacterial count in the pocket and calm the tissue. During supportive periodontal maintenance, we repeat this as needed. You can read more about periodontitis and its connection to general health under Periodontology.
What the laser is not
Not a miracle cure. Caries is still removed conventionally and an implant is still placed surgically. The laser is a tool that complements these steps.
Costs
In surgical procedures, root canal treatment and periodontitis treatment, the use of the laser is part of the respective out-of-pocket amount; you will find the amounts on the page What does what cost?. The written treatment and cost plan is always what counts.
Would you like to know whether the laser makes sense for your treatment? We clarify that at the initial consultation, gladly with a look at your findings. Appointment
